Jogging ‘adds five years or more to life’ | The Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9243398/Jogging-adds-five-years-or-more-to-life.html

So it seems running an hour a week can help men live 6 years longer and women live 5 years longer.

Wow let’s do the maths. Say even 2 hours x 52 weeks x about 60 years if you start around 20 =  6240 hours.

Number of hours in one year = 24 x 365 = 8760 hours.

So for an investment of about three-quarters of a year – less if you start after 20 – you might live for an average of 5 or 6 years longer. Quantifiable longer life. Without even talking about the other health benefits of exercise. Worth thinking about.

Advice on the intensity:

You should aim to feel a little breathless, but not very breathless.

I wrote a blog post called silent running about Haruki Murakami’s short book What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. I was going to call it What I Talk About When I Talk About What I Talk About When I Talk About Running but I thought that someone might write a blog post about my blog post and we would end up with some seriously long titles.

Sure Carina everyone makes their own lifestyle choices. It sounds like you get plenty of exercise!

    • Of course Niall I agree with you that everyone makes their own lifestyle choices. I was not talking about lifestyle, I was talking about health here just one example of what I’m talking about http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?volume=242&issue=12&page=1265 in english, I heard from cases here.

And about me doing plenty of exercise, just because I walk, and what about you doing four budos? but the important thing for both of us, are you happy with the 4 budos? I think that yes and so I am with my walks and taking photos, of course also with my aikido classes and most of all the seminars we do sometimes on weekends, those are better than any party where I might be invited.

  2. Thanks Niall for this post and also for Haruki Murakami’s book, I liked it very much. Forgive me Niall if I do not agree, I think that not everybody is able to do jogging, I even would ask everybody who would like to do it first to ask his doctor. But I would recommend to walk every day. I began it regularly since my children are out of home, every day except tuesdays and thursdays(my aikido classes) do a 2 hours walk and the final is upward, the worst part at the beginning, but now I enjoy every part, really enjoy, did a post about it for sometime in the next month, for june I have already another one.
That brings me to your membership in AAUSA, I hope that I will read you there soon.
