Dura-Europos, a Melting Pot at the Intersection of Empires – NYTimes.com
History comes alive in this very cool article about Dura-Europos. It was an ancient city in the Middle East in what is now Syria. It was finally destroyed in a siege.
The story reminded me very much of an exhibition I saw in London when I was a boy about another siege in the Levant, the siege of Masada. Why were history lessons at school never like this?!
